Greek American doctor cures child with O.C. Deficiency

NBC-TV’s Today Show featured recently Dr. Nancy interviewing ‘Saving Sammy’ author Beth Alison Maloney and Sammy, Ms Maloney’s son on whom the book is based.

Beth wrote the book after documenting every facet of her son’s behavior from the day he contracted at age 10 a strept condition which developed in what is known in medical circles as p.a.n.d.a.s., a developmental condition of O.C. Deficiency. His mother observed his every strange move while in that condition and she was able to record it. She also researched for the right physician who could help her son, and found out that Dr. Catherine Nicolaides-Codella, a developmental pediatrician practicing in south New Jersey offered the best chances for his recovery.

Without wasting time, Ms Maloney contacted Dr.Nicolaides-Codella, and trekked all the way from Maine where she lives, to New Jersey for her son to get the treatment he required. After a series of visits over the next seven years, Sammy has finally being proclaimed cured. The segment on the NBC show, where he discusses his illness with Dr. Nancy and another interviewer on the set, prove the fact that the symptoms have been eliminated and he has fully recovered. His recovery is attributed to Dr. Nicolaides-Codella’s treatment, so the physician is featured on the show describing the devastating effects of this developmental disorder and the steps she had taken to cure him.

Dr. Nicolaides-Codella is the daughter of Editor-in-Chief Bob Nicolaides, the wife of Dr. Mark Codella and has two children, Steven and Alexandra.
